I made this Ladybug Birthday Cake for my friend’s 17th birthday. She couldn’t decide whether she wanted a ladybug cake or a giant cupcake, so I gave her both. The loved it.
I made the cupcake using the giant cupcake pan from Wilton. The body of the ladybug is from the Wilton small ball pan and the head is a mini cupcake that has been shaped into a half ball.
The red and black frostings are a Betty Crocker aerosol product and the rest of the colors were made from buttercream frosting. I tried to make the red frosting, but just couldn’t get it red enough.
The eyes of the ladybug are cut from fondant using the end of a large round decorating tip. and the antennae are black candles. I used a star tip to ice the ladybug.
The butterfly is a sugar cookie. I rolled it out on the cookie sheet and trimmed it to the shape I wanted, put a lollipop stick in the bottom and baked the cookie. After it cooled, I decorated it using glitter frosting.
