I made this Homemade Drag Princess Cake for my boyfriend’s birthday. He is kind of a princess, and really into drag. I got him to do the makeup and hair. I used dolls from a local recycle shop. I removed the legs.
I baked the cake in a classic Dolly Varden tin. It’s a wheat free pound cake made without dairy. It takes a long time to bake in that shape tin, so to avoid burning I used a very low temperature (160c). It took 4 hours! I cut some small wedges out of the cake to help the skirt drape. Then I covered it in a simple buttercream frosting.
The dress is made from pink fondant frosting. I rolled it out and draped it over the cake to make the skirt. Then I dressed the doll and stuck it in the top. The beading was really fun for my boyfriend to do – we used silver, gold and pink cachous.
The cake was very popular and got a lot of ooohs and ahhs.
