I made this Barbie cake for my daughter’s third birthday. I put a Castle background behind it. I used cake mix and canned icing(yeah I know, original!)
I bought Wilton dye…took the Barbie’s original dress to the store to match colors. Then a purple edible glitter sprinkles. I used a too small glass measuring cup so had to use two 8 inch cakes (cut circles to fit the bottom of the dress.) (I will use a bigger cup next time so I only need one. The cake almost fell over but I balanced it with a couple of toothpicks.
I made cupcakes to go on the side so I didn’t have to cut the cake itself. (until later) I used the actual barbie and just wrapped her in plastic wrap and put her hair up in a “baggie bun” to keep her icing out of her hair until the last day. I tried to match the design of the dress…thought it came out pretty good. (I do NOT make cakes professionally!)
It is hard to sprinkle sprinkles on a cake surface that is almost vertical! Live and learn. My friend’s daughter wants one for her 21 st birthday in October so I will know where to improve. This was a FUN cake to make! Thanks for the ideas…I knew what I was going to do but searched and found this web site.
