I purchased two bowl from Wall Mart for this Barbie cake. One small one and one larger one. Bake the cake in the bowls.
After it was cooled, I put the small one on top of the large one and carved it to make the skirt flow. I cut the cake three times and filled it with a chocolate mousse and covered the outside with a thin layer of store bought buttercream. I covered the barbie with plastic wrap and stuck the barbie in as straight as I could. Then, I put it in the freezer until I rolled out the fondant.
When I was ready to cover the cake with fondant, I make a long cut till the center and put it around the barbie so that the cut would be at the front. I then took white fondant and covered the cut. To make the dark pink frills at the top, I just made a circle to go around the Barbie’s torso and drew where I was to cut – with a toothpick. I cut the piece and put it on top of the light pink fondant. Next, I used a small cookie cutter to cut flowers out of the dark pink fondant. I stuck a small silver dagree in it and put it on the cake.
The torso was probably the trickiest part, it took me many times to get it just right. I covered the cuts with beads and icing. I then moved it onto a larger white cake that I had made, filled with strawberry jam and frozen.
I had made it for my little cousin’s birthday party and it was a complete hit!
