I made this Barbie Doll birthday cake for my daughter’s 6th birthday, when she was still really into dolls, princesses and the like. The doll was purchased at a craft store, and it is torso-head, with no legs. This was important because I didn’t want to dismantle a Barbie doll or jam 2 legs into a cake. Place the doll in the cake after it’s cooled completely. The cake was made in a glass bowl (I think the one I have is from Pampered Chef) that was turned upside down after the cake had cooled.
To make sure the colors didn’t run, I covered the entire cake in white frosting, then piped the flowers on top with colors. This doll cake is pink, hot pink and purple, but I made a second using blue, turquoise and purple. The doll is also piped in frosting, though I didn’t cover her in the white base frosting.
After the cake cools and you’ve flipped it upside down onto your work surface, place the doll in the top of the cake.
