I had one of these doll cakes as a little girl on my birthday. So my niece was turning 15 and I decided to make her a Barbie dress cake. First I purchased a Barbie doll. Next I gave her hair a beautiful updo. Then I added edible pearls to her tiara. Then I created a bustier of edible pearls.
I also made her all her accessories of edible pearls. I made four eight inch round cakes (2 boxes). When cakes cooled I stacked then cut a circle in the middle and used butter cream frosting between each layer. I wrapped the bottom of the doll in plastic wrap. Then I inserted doll in the hole. I carved my cakes until they began to look like a big dress! Did a crumb coat of butter cream and placed in fridge for one hour.
Then I colored my butter cream a beautiful pink and piped using star tips #16 #18. I also set a side a little white butter cream for the bottom of her dress. I put her back in the fridge overnight.
She turned out beautiful. My niece cried! She did not want to cut her. Lol, We took plenty of pictures. I got so many requests. Next week I’m doing a bridal shower doll cake. Check out my beautiful princess and her pearl accessories!

Look at you Jenny! This is really lovely. I didn’t know you were out there baking like this – are you catering? This is really great, detailed work.
One of these days I’ll dig up the pic I have of your cake from back in the day.
Love ya!
