For my daughter’s 9th birthday we decided on a Popcorn Birthday Cake Idea since the theme of her party was movie night. I started by baking two sheet cakes, pan size 9×13, and allowed them to cool overnight. I then cut them exactly in half, iced each cake top and began to layer them one on top of the other to create a box look. Next I frosted the outside of the cake and applied the rolled fondant.
For those who want to make fondant you may, but you can also buy it. Have fondant rolled and ready to place on your cake. Refrigerate for 1 hour to let cake mold with fondant then begin to lay strawberry fruit by the foot in striped pattern. Layer white icing to act as glue for marshmallow ‘POPCORN TOP” and begin to spread marshmallows on top of cake. Drizzle with leftover white icing and spray with yellow frosting spray dyed for that “buttered popcorn” effect! Personalize the front of popcorn box however you like with writing icing and your cake is ready to be revealed!
