My little girl wanted a My Little Pony cake for her birthday party at school. I like to bake, but no one usually sees my “creations” other than my family! This cake was actually really easy and everybody loved it, especially the birthday girl.
I baked a 9 x 13 sheet cake using a boxed cake mix. I used the funfetti kind because that’s my little girl’s favorite with all the colorful little flecks in it.
I then dyed some buttercream frosting baby blue and iced the whole cake to look like the sky.
Next, I dyed about 2 tbsp of frosting each red, purple, blue, green and yellow. I also left about 4 tbsp of frosting white for the clouds at the bottom of the rainbow and her name. To save time on clean up, I put each color into a separate zip top food storage bag to pipe on the rainbow.
I cut the tip off of the bag leaving about 1/8 inch hole. Then, I cut an “X” shape in the hole, to make a star shape. I piped on the rainbow and the clouds and filled in any holes I may have left using a toothpick to manipulate the frosting. I also piped her name on using a food storage bag with a small hole cut off the tip.
Last, I cut 2 shapes from butcher paper to place the ponies on so that they would not touch the frosting.
