I was getting inspired by some of the beautiful fondant cakes and decided to give it a hand. My son loves Transformers. I got online and found a marshmallow fondant recipe and an Autobot logo. I printed out the logo and cut out the shapes.
I make two batches of fondant. Then I used a 9×13 pan and a boxed cake mix. After the cake cooled, I cut it down the middle and put buttercream icing in the layer and frosted the whole cake. Then I colored the first batch of fondant blue and rolled it out and placed it over the cake.
Then I made a purple color and cut out the shapes and his name. I had some left and made orange flames for the heck of it. I brushed a little water on them and placed them on the cake.
Word of caution – making fondant is MESSY! But really fun.
I’m REALLY pleased with the results – as was my son! I will definitely be making another fondant cake. Try it too!
