My son went through a phase of LOVING Blue so it was all hands on deck trying to find a Homemade Blue’s Clue’s Birthday Cake Idea, which I could not, as we cannot buy Blue items in Australia anymore. So in the end I made a template of some pictures I had printed off onto a calendar I made, and enlarged one of them as big as i could, then copied it freehand and used that as my guide. Butter icing in 3( light, medium and a little dark ) shades of blue and a pink for the tongue and the cake making began. The icing I just added colour to until I thought it looked right. HE LOVED IT!!! Which made the effort worthwhile although it is VERY easy to make compared to some.
I used a homemade mud cake and found that this created much less crumbing than any other cake I have ever made when cutting it, which made icing it with a butter cream really simple and quick because I wasn’t pulling crumbs out every few seconds.
Something I found useful was to leave the template on until I had coloured in the spots on the ears, the tongue and so on, just meant everything was in it’s place and it helped hold the icing together and didn’t put me off my line so to speak.
