Coolest Lightning Mc Queen Birthday Cake

I made this Lightning Mc Queen Birthday Cake for my son’s third birthday. I have never done anything like this before so it was a little scary. I got a lot of my ideas from this website.

First I used three 13×9 pans and stacked them together. My husband took on the challenge of carving out the car. I did buy the 3-d mold for backup. But, we never had to use it.

I used fondant for the lightning bolts, eyes, and the number three. The tires are made out of donuts wrapped in fondant. For the spoiler on the back I used straws to hold it up and then covered it up with buttercreme frosting. I would suggest to freeze the cake before frosting because I did get a few crumbs in the frosting.

To smooth it out I used a knife dipped in warm water. ALSO, to make it look like the colors are running on the bolts I used food coloring then ran my finger on it dipped in water and smoothed it all over.

Everyone loved this cake!

  1. You did a wonderful job. Give yourself an A+

I thought you had used a mold pan. My grandson likes McQueen also. You encourage me to try to make one for Adrik now. He is three years old. Keep up the good wok and enjoy baking it is so good to do this as it can be very calming on the nerves if you just relax and enjoy your imagination at work.

“Good Job”, mom and dad! This is a the most Super Coolest cake I have every seen…Being that it’s homemade. My godson from Louisana will be celebrating his 2nd birthday in July and his theme will be Lighting McQueen to. I have to tell his mommy about your cake so that she can have the same idea for his birthday cake.

    Adios (Bye~Bye)
