Coolest Lightning McQueen Birthday Cake

This cake we made for our son’s 4th birthday, it took longer to make than how long it lasted. We started off with 3 layers of homemade sponge cake then I was left in charge of cutting out the shape etc., we used a wafer for the back spoiler, licorice straps for the tyres, Oreo biscuits for the wheels, white fondant for the windows, roof logo, side skirt and a yummy red icing for the colour.

We had to roll out and cut out all the shapes for the windows and eyes. We had to experiment with getting the right colour because too much red colouring made the icing too runny. I modeled the homemade Lightning McQueen birthday cake from a toy car we had so when it came to decorating the cake we could get the details close.

It was the best cake we made and was my 1st ever attempt. Im glad we took lots of photos.
