My daughter loves Dora and wanted to have her on her cake. I could not find a pan so I decided to make my own from a picture in one of my daughter’s Dora books.
I made the entire Dora The Explorer Cake from one box of yellow cake mix. One 9 inch round made up Dora’s face. I found that the unfrosted bottom of the yellow cake was a dead ringer for the color of her face. The other round I then cut exactly in half.
Then, I laid the bottom of the cake pan on the flat edge of the half round just enough so that I could cut an arc from one tip of the flat side down to about 2/3 down the flat side. This was to make sure the hair piece would fit exactly with the head piece. I did the same with the other half round.
I then lined up both halve on either side of her head and just used the store-bought frosting for her hair color. I then used some decoration frosting tubes to make the facial features.
It turned out great and only took me about an hour after baking and cooling the rounds. Might have been even better had I squared off the ends of her hair.
