I made this Dora the Explorer Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 2nd birthday. I incorporated some of the cakes I have seen on this website and made it my own.
You will need: 4 cake boxes (2 in the mold),9 in round cake pans, Wilton Wondermold, green, orange and purple coloring, 1 ea. purple & orange melting chocolate, 1 fun flower mold. It took me about 5 hours to make, including cooking time
I found the doll at Target, I loved that it had shoes. The mold worked great. I cut a section out of the back of the mold and scooped out some cake to fit the doll in. I then trimmed the piece down and secured it back with frosting. Tip: use only one type of cake batter in the mold, I did a yellow and drizzled in strawberry but due to different cooking times the strawberry was undercooked and the yellow was overcooked. Which was ok – until my daughter wanted to eat Dora. My daughter broke her arm and she has a red cast, which is why Dora does too.
I then decorated the 9 in round cakes with Dora characters. The Dora cake figure weighs a ton, we wrapped a bowl in tissue paper, cut out sections in the two round cakes and placed her on top of that. I made the flower lollipops in advance, but they set very quickly so you can make the day of.
I have made 2 princess castle cakes for my oldest daughter and step daughter and this by far was my favorite because it was the easiest. I am looking forward to making a mermaid cake for my soon to be 4 yr old.
