Coolest Little Mermaid Cake

I made the Little Mermaid cake with Betty Crocker cake chocolate marble cake mix. I also added a handfull of multicolored chocolate beans to the sponge mixture to give a rainbow marble effect to the sponge.

The icing was made with Betty Crockers butter icing. I dyed the rock using coco powder, and blue food colouring for the sea. I mixed some of the blue with the undyed icing to make a white horses effect on the waves. I used a pallet knife to smooth over the cake.

All the fish and decorations were made from marzipan, I left them to set off slightly before applying them to the cake. I made the decorations a couple of days before making the cake. I wrapped the fairies legs in cling film before putting through the middle of the cake.

The mermaid tail was made of marzipan, I molded the fish tail shape then using a small measuring spoon made the scales tiding the edges up with a hole punch tool from my pumpkin cutting kit. Once the tails scales were complete I painted on the green food colour into the grooves of the scales and painted the remainder of the tail in the blue food colour. I used pink edible glitter for the groves in the end of her tail and edable sugar balls for the scales and bubbles for the fish in the sea.

I held the tail in place with a cocktail stick in the middle of her tail fin. I found the candles from the local garden center.
