I made this Pirate Mickey Birthday Cake Idea for my son’s 4th birthday. He wanted a Mickey cake, but his birthday is close to Halloween, so I wanted to add a little of that too.
I used a 10 inch round pan for his head, and two 6 in round pans for his ears. I trimmed the two six inch cakes to match the curve of the head and used the left over pieces to make the ends of the scarf on his head. To give the nose dimension, I cut the top off a cupcake at attached to the top of the cake. The cake is decorated with homemade buttercream icing. I use chocolate buttercream to make the black.
A star tip was used to decorate the cake. The earring was made by rolling out a piece of yellow taffy candy, shaping it and putting it in the freezer to harden. The only problem is that as it came to room temperature, the earring would start to sag. I just added some beads and coins around the base to complete the theme.
My son loved it.
