I made this Mickey Mouse Clubhouse birthday cake for my youngest son’s 1st birthday. He just loves the show and I couldn’t find a cake to buy that was unique enough for his first birthday. I have never made a cake with fondant before so it was a little challenging.
I used buttercream icing and the Marshmallow Fondant recipe and covered a 13×9 cake with it. I also used a dome cake pan to bake a second kind of cake for the base of the clubhouse. I used ho hos for the door leg, foot, and arm. I covered Styrofoam balls with black and white fondant for the head, ears, and hand. I used peppermint sticks with fondant for the fingers. I bought the turning figures from a local store and used frosting to create grass around the ground.
Everything else is cutouts of the fondant. He had such a good time at his party and loved eating his cake! Now that I have worked with fondant I hope to get a little better to make edges a little more smooth.
