I modeled this Mini Mouse Birthday Cake after another cake on this site. The other woman used one 8″ pan for the face and two 4″ pans for the ears. I couldn’t find a 4″ pan anywhere, so I cut two 4″ circles out of one 8″ cake. I actually baked 4 8″ cakes. Two for the face, and made four 4″ circles for the ears so that I could make it a layer cake with chocolate pudding in the middle.
I also cut part of the ears so they fit more snug against the face. For the skin tone icing on the face I used peach dye bought at Michael’s and added yellow to make it more skin tone. As per the other mini mouse cake maker on this site, I used the tubes of decorator icing for the black, as I’m told it’s almost impossible to make black icing (I had to buy 3).
The biggest problem I ran into was that the icing wouldn’t stick to the cut edges of the ears. To solve this problem, I covered both ears in fondant and iced over it. The facial features and the bow are made out of fondant as well.
Good Luck!
This is beautiful. Tip: when I need to make black icing, I use chocolate icing and add the black to it. It works wonderfully! Hope it helps for your future projects.
