Coolest Sleeping Beauty Cake

My sister and I were asked to come up with a “barbie” cake for a co-workers daughter. We were provided with the doll but from there it was up to us. We are beginners with fondant and are determined to conquer it. I wanted to practice with draping. I love how the fondant just seems to flow. We had to come up with enough cake because this doll was tall.

The bowl to a kitchen aide mixer served as the Sleeping Beauty Cake dress with a 10″ round for the platform that she is standing on.

Everyone was very pleased with the way she turned out.

  1. she is beautiful, better than anything you would get in a grocery store or Walmart. How smart of you to bake it in a mixing bowl, no need to go buy the kit from Wilton. Looking forward to seeing more of your cakes.

  3. So you didn’t have any problems with the kitchenaid mixing bowl in the oven? Some blogs said don’t do it …you say yes…??

  4. PYREX MIXING BOWLS WORK VERY WELL SINCE THEY ARE OVEN PROOF AS WELL AS FREEZER PROOF. I USED THEM FOR A LONG TIME I WOULD PURCHASE A STICK TORSO DOLL HEAD AND BODY. I WOULD ALSO FREEZE THE CAKE BEFORE TRYING TO DECORATE IT–IT SEEMS SO MUCH EASIER TO DECORATE FROZEN NO PULLING THE CAKE APART WITH SMOOTHING OF FROSTING.
