We just loved the Princess and the Frog when it came out so my daughter decided that was what she wanted for her fifth birthday, a Princess and the Frog Cake. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any examples so I was going into it blind.
I just used store bought cake mixes in the Wilton Classic Wonder Mold cake pan. After it cooled I put on a crumb coat of buttercream frosting. I used fondant to make the dress. I dyed the fondant different shades of yellow and green then made the separate layers. The bottom is a lime green cut to fit the mold.
The next layer is a pale yellow cut into points. Then the large sage green leaves around the waist. I had to add a band of fondant around the waist to cover the gap between the bodice and the skirt. The only thing that isn’t fondant is the vine hanging from the flower on her dress. I used an icing writer for that. Then I added some green and pink shimmer dust to give it sparkle.
It wasn’t perfect, but my daughter loved it.
Very cute, you did a great job!!
I would like to know where you got the doll you put in the cake. My daughter LOVES this cake and wants it for her party now! Thanks for the idea! :)
It looks perfect to me!
I Love it!! Going out to Micheal’s right now to buy my pan and get started!!
I just purchased the doll at Wal-mart around Xmas time. It is a little too tall for the cake so I had to bend her legs back and stick her in at an angle.
Beautiful work
I’m very critical and know what’s good and what’s not. You did a great job. Very impressive and professional looking. Keep up the good work. You’ve got a gift.
My daughters both had a princess and the frog party and I wish I would have thought about this, this is so cute!
The picture does not do it justice. You can’t see the veins in the leaves and how real they looked, and how the glitter made it shimmer. I’m sure it was as beautiful as a professional would do it. Happy Birthday Grand Daughter.Cutest cake I’ve ever seen.
You did a Fabulous job! My daughter is turning 6 and we having a princess tea party and she wants a Tiana cake. I will definitely be referencing your technique.

I’m planning on doing one for my granddaughters 3rs birthday and love your design, I was thinking of something similar. I have to add the frog though because that is her favorite. I will make the frog out of modeling chocolate.

Congrats. It is a masterpiece. The colours are so well matched.
This cake is awesome! But how did you make the frog? Could you ad close ups? Thanks.
The doll I bought came with a little plastic frog that I tied to her hand with wire. Not very impressive, I know, but very easy.
