This is the homemade Spongebob birthday cake my daughter and I made for my son Cade’s 5th birthday. It turned out better than I expected! I borrowed some ideas from the cakes on this site and added a few creative ideas and shortcuts out of necessity.
I used vanilla melts to create the big, round eyes, melting the morsels and then spooning them into a circle. I had dyed the candy yellow, later, and poured some arms, but, frankly, that was a flop. So, I dug into the kids’ goody bags, remembering the clapping hands I had bought.
My 11-year-old, Kaci, wanted to help, and I resisted at first, but she actually was a great help! She strategically placed the darker sponge dots and drew in the tie, pocket, eyelashes and blue eyes, as well as wrote Cade’s name. She did a great job!
Chocolate chips were the perfect addition for the pupils.
The cake was a great hit for the party.
What kind of cake mix did I use? Yellow, of course.
