My 9 and 3 year old daughter wanted a Spongebob themed party – we celebrate on the same day so it’s always a challenge to keep there cakes individual so they each get a chance to blow out their candles. I decided to make them each “mini” cakes and make a big cake for the rest of the people.
We had got a Spongebob playdoh set for Christmas which came with all the pieces to make a Spongebob (using a mound of yellow playdoh as the body) – so I decided to make the “cakes” be the body and use the pieces to build each Spongebob. They were each a little different because of the different expressions and pieces, and I then made a little “twinkee” size cake to put the candle in so it would not ruin the Spongebob cakes.
I did the body in a light yellow and then used a darker yellow to make circles to give it more of a sponge look. Then all I did was add the arms, legs, eyes, mouth and hat. They were great – got so many compliments.
Using ideas from this great website, I made the big cake from just a rectangle cake, frosted to look like water, crushed graham crackers for the sand and some Spongebob figures I had to decorate the top. I also used some edible candy to make the logs and tree base to look like a fire and palm tree. We decorated the house with various Spongebob toys and stuffed animals and the party was great. The cakes came were awesome!
