My daughter requested a Spongebob Birthday theme, and I knew that there was a lot of potential with a great cake. I am no professional, but I have done a few that I am proud of, and this one takes the cake!!!
I found a Spongebob cake pic on the internet and I gave it a try. Left the legs and arms off since they were more trouble than they were worth. This is a 12-12 two-layer pound cake made from scratch using the classic recipe (a pound of this, a pound of that…) with buttercream filling. I placed pineapple rings on top of the iced bottom layer before I put the second layer. Had to make a pineapple filling since he lives in one under the sea!
Iced with buttercream and covered with marshmallow fondant (fluff + powdered sugar).I used the Spongebob color kit from Party City to dye the fondant. This homemade Spongebob birthday cake was a hit for my daughter’s 9th birthday. Lots of work, but totally worth it!
