Coolest Thomas The Tank Cake

This is Thomas The Tank Cake is just a regular slab cake made from a boxed cake mix.

I looked online for some pictures of Thomas to get an idea of his shape. I enlarged a photo of Thomas to the size of the cake in my photo program and printed it out. I cut out the Thomas shape and laid the paper template over the cake and cut out the shape on the cake.

The steam pipe, face and circles on the cake are made from marshmallow fondant. This is the first time I used/made it so I didn’t want to do the whole cake in fondant. I’m also not crazy about the taste so I’d rather have more frosting.

I just used a regular sandwich bag with the tip cut off to pipe on the black lines. (I was weak from just getting over the flu so my hands were shaky. My lines didn’t turn out so good)I used my finger slightly wet with water to smooth down any bumpy parts on the frosting.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and my son loved it.
