My son wanted a Dragon Cake for his birthday, but he wanted an actual dragon. This was the first time that I ever needed to visit the hardware store to make a cake. I bought a solid board for the cake to sit on. I also got a flange and some PVC piping and fittings. I wanted the dinosaur to have a long neck and it needed support.
The body of the dragon is a cake carved. Then I built up the neck with RKT’s covered in modeling chocolate. His head is also RKT’s. To create the facial features, I used fondant to form the features. Then I covered him in fondant and decorated him. Wings are made from Gum Paste. Then to complete the look, I put green butter cream around him with gold coins since he was guarding the treasure.
It was all worth it, when my son saw him.
