For my daughter’s 2nd birthday, she wanted a Wiggles party. I wanted to make a Wiggles character cake for her, so I chose a Wags the Dog birthday cake decoration.
I started with a Wilton 11x15x2 cake pan, which uses two boxes of cake mix. I also baked a round cake using a Pampered Chef 1 qt. batter bowl, which uses half a box mix, so the remainder became cupcakes.
From the rectangular cake, once it was completely cooled, I cut a pear shaped head. I made sure enough cake was left to fashion his two floppy ears. This is easier to do if you create a template on paper to help with the design and cutting. Discard remaining cake scraps. Use frosting to attach ears and cover the whole head with chocolate frosting.
Cut the round cake in half to create two circles. The tapered top can be cut off and discarded. Position these on the lower half of the cake to create a raised snout. Frost with orange and brown icing, outlined with a squeeze tube of black icing. For the nose and eye accents I used Oreo cookies and for the tongue a fruit roll-up.
My daughter was thrilled with her Wiggles cake and she recognized Wags right away.
