This cake was made for one of my twin boys as an individual cake for his safari theme birthday. The cake was first drawn by my husband and then a template was made. A cake was baked from the Wilson Animal Cracker pan and the template was used to cut the outline of the giraffe. An Exacto knife was then used to cut key areas from the template such as the eyes and nose.
The template was then placed on the cut out cake and powdered sugar was sifted on top to get an outline of those key areas. Icing was then piped starting with the white and then the darker colors and lastly the outline was put on. Hope everything is clear on this birthday cake photo.

I found a sticker of a giraffe that I thought was really cute and just perfect for my daughter’s first birthday cake. The sticker was only about 1.5 inches high so I scanned it and enlarged it.
The cake was made with two oval chocolate cakes. I cut the head from one and the body from the other. It was covered in buttercream. The bottom half served the 15 people at the party and the head was left over so I guess it would serve around 30 people. As you can see from the birthday cake photo, the cake was a great success!

My grandson loved giraffes so we made this for his first birthday. I cut and placed pieces of sheet cake in the shape of a giraffe. For the horns I used whopper candy. I frosted the cake using the “star/flower” tip from my cake decorating bag.
We took a birthday cake photo and this is the result!

I wanted to do a #1 cake for my son but was afraid that if I cut the sheet cake to form the #1, I would not have enough cake for the guests to eat so I decided to just do the #1 design on the cake and use a zoo theme.
I decided on the giraffe for obvious reasons and iced leaves for the bottom of the #1 so it looks like he is sticking his head through the trees. This was so easy as you can see from the birthday cake photo and I enjoyed making it. It was a big hit!

I made this cake for my sons 1st birthday. I used the Wilton animal cracker cake pan and modified it a bit to look like a giraffe. Next, I piled frosting up until I could form a pointier tip for the giraffe’s ear.
Once it was built up I starred over it just like the rest of the cake. Also, I changed the mouth a little from the mold. I used tootsie rolls for the “horns.” I rolled them with my hands and shaped them to look as they do. Then I jammed them into the top of the cake and then held them up with toothpicks. They do tend to melt a bit if under lights or in a warmer temperature. Maybe in the future I would refrigerate them before sticking them into the cake.
I designed my own giraffe on the little cake for him to have his own cake to dive into! I used the small Wilton circle cake pan for that. He loved it!! I took a birthday cake photo for you to see.

For this cake I found a different birthday cake photo of a giraffe that I liked and then I started doing freehand sketches.
Once I had it perfected I had to enlarge the sketch so that it would fit on the cake pan. Then I baked MANY cakes (the cake was gigantic when done) and put pieces of paper matching the template on top of the cake then cut around it I had to put all the pieces together on the cake board. The real fun was icing it! It’s a lot of work but so much fun.

This cake was for my second son’s first birthday. I cut up a sheet cake for the head, neck, body and legs. I covered it with a layer of buttercream then topped it with marshmallow fondant frosting. The hooves, spots, tail, mane, and facial features were made from marshmallow fondant as you may tell in the birthday cake photo.

My son chose the theme of his 5th birthday to be animals. I baked a large rectangle cake and then cut the bottom into an arc or the shape of the bottom of a boat. Then I used normal icing, colouring it blue and put that over 1/2 the cake to make the sky. I then coloured some fondant icing to brown and made that the bottom 1/2 of the cake.
I chose my son’s favourite animals (elephant, lion and giraffe) and made paper cut outs of them to check proportions. Then I coloured fondant icing different colours and made the animals. I outlined detail in string licorice or black tube icing. It was a brilliant success.
Giraffe Birthday Cake Photo Using Animal Cracker Cake Mold

When I found the animal cracker cake mold at Michael’s craft store I thought how perfect that would be for my son’s 2nd birthday party. The theme we chose was jungle animals.
Each animal was made of different cake mixes (they were boxed cake mixes like Duncan Hines) and different icings. I wanted people to have a variety to choose from. The icings are also all different and the biggest hit was the giraffe, which was chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.
The tint I used was the Wilton brand icing tints also bought at Michael’s. Just be careful with the tint because it will stain your hands. I used a toothpick to add the tint to the icings and you don’t need much at all. A little goes a long way trust me. I had lots of compliments on the cakes and I was very pleased with the way they turned out.
Tips for Making this Cake
*Keep the icing in the fridge until you are ready to use it, if not the stars will not look like stars but like blobs and the icing will run and not look nice. I learned the hard way
*Do not use the pour and frost icings by Betty Crocker. It was more liquidy and the stars looked like blobs. As you are making the stars the heat from your hands melt the icing.
*Grease the cake mold REALLY well or when you flip the cake out it will stick. I also bought a decorating bag with the size tips that are listed in the animal cracker cake mold instructions.
Since the giraffe was a little more difficult I made it a couple of weeks before the party. I wanted to practice before I had to make them for the party.
It was so much fun and I plan on making more of these in the future. I’ve never used a cake mold to make a cake before; this was all new to me.
