Coolest Elmo Sphere Cake

Elmo Sphere Cake

This was my first character cake, didn’t expect it to even turn out but I was pleasantly surprised. I just cooked two dome cakes with a Pyrex glass bowl. I used 2 boxes of cake mix and put 3cups in each bowl and then made cupcakes with the leftovers.

Then I put them together and gave them a crumb coat and placed it in the freezer for 45min. Then gave it it’s final coat and pricked it with a fork to give it the fuzz affect. I was going to cut a wedge out for his mouth but thought it might topple over so I just drew that in.

I used cupcakes for his nose and eyes. Just had to shape them. Cut the cupcake down to about an inch thick for his nose and kind of shaped it like a teardrop. And for his eyes I basically removed the “muffin top” part and then rounded the edges. I made sure to ice the eyes and nose as much as I could (at least get the parts that are going to be touching the red) so that I didn’t smear red all over.

Then just kept it in the fridge until ready to eat so the icing wouldn’t melt off. I did use store bought icing which did melt off an hour after we cut into the cake. Make sure to use a lot of toothpicks for the eyes and nose. I think I used 3 for the nose and 2 on each eyeball and 2 to connect the eyeballs to each other.

Homemade Elmo Cake With Fondant Elmo Topper

Coolest Elmo Cake

This Elmo birthday cake was a hit, I sat and managed to do Elmo in an hour. The cake is a double layered chocolate cake with chocolate butter-cream. Elmo is crafted completely from fondant, he has a lollipop stick in the center to hold him up.

I gave Elmo his fur look with an icing tip with holes, just pushing the tip in and twisting brings the fondant up and makes Elmo look a little softer. I hand cut the Sesame Street shape and added the birthday boys name and age.

He is to date one of my favorite figures I have done. It helps that there is just one lollipop stick holding him up and big fondant details to dry, so no little fiddly bits.

Elmo Cake Using the Wilton Stand Up Cuddly Bear Pan

Elmo cake submitted by Lorna B.

Coolest Elmo Cake

This Elmo cake was created by first using a Wilton Stand Up Cuddly Bear pan. After baking I cut the feet and the ears off. I used a hair/grass icing tip and red tinted butter cream frosting to cover the entire bear, then drew the mouth in with a tip #3 black line.

The eyes are made from untinted fondant with a black circle cut from a Sugar Sheet for the pupils. The nose is yellow tinted fondant. The eyes and nose are on toothpicks to keep them from sliding off his face. For the legs I used 3 jumbo marshmallows and covered these with frosting to look like Elmo’s legs, and built up the ends to resemble feet.

3D Elmo Birthday Cake

Elmo Cake

For my twins birthday cakes I made an Elmo birthday cake and a cookie monster cake. I used the Wilton 3D teddy bear cake tin which took about 3 packet mixes of butter cake. Once cooked and cooled I cut the ears and arms off the bear so I could put arms and longer legs on. I used sponge fingers for the arms and legs which were secured onto the body of the cake with skewers.

I did a crumb coating (thin layer of icing) on the cake in red and left it for about 2 hours to set. Make sure you use gel food coloring to get the right color.  Once the crumb coating was set I did a thicker layer of icing which I then swirled around with my finger to make it look like fur sticking out in different directions.

The mouth was made from strips of licorice cut to shape. The eyes and nose were made out of icing sugar and water mixed until it would hold it’s shape and secured to the cake with skewers.

The letter boxes in front of Elmo were made from a square cake and just cut to shape and iced. The letters were piped on with icing made from a mixture of icing sugar and water.

The cake was an absolute hit and well worth the effort.

2-Tiered Elmo Birthday Cake

Elmo cake submitted by Patricia W.

Coolest Elmo Birthday Cake

I made this Elmo birthday cake for my friend’s niece who was turning 2, and she LOVES Elmo! I baked 2 square 8″ cakes and 2 round 6″ cakes, all chocolate and layered with chocolate icing. The bottom tier was covered in homemade fondant tinted with Wilton Rose, and the top tier was covered in fondant tinted with orange and bright yellow to make it brighter!

I then used a fondant cutter to cut out the circle decorations and the 2. Elmo was made of homemade rice krispie treats and covered in homemade fondant tinted in no taste red, and I scraped the fondant with a knife to give the appearance of fur. He was held together and in place on top of the cake with chopsticks. His eyes are white fondant held in place with toothpicks, as well as his nose, which is tinted orange. His mouth is black fondant. The gifts and bows were sculpted with the leftover pink, orange and red fondant. I made the banner out of red fondant and piped the wording in orange with tip #3. The red border was done with tip #18.

Homemade Piped Elmo Cake Made From the Wilton Elmo Pan

Elmo cake submitted by Claire W.

Elmo Cake

This is an Elmo cake that was made for a little boys 1st Birthday! I used the Wilton Elmo shaped pan. This was the first time that I had used a shaped pan and I love it! It made decorating so easy!

I made sure to grease and flour just the bottom of the pan. The woman at the cake shop also suggested that I pour the cake batter in small amounts all around the cake pan and to try to avoid spreading the batter with a spatula. This would ensure that the butter and flour would stay on the shaped pan so my cake wouldn’t stick.

It is frosted with buttercream frosting, I bought gel colors from a local cake shop to get the deep colors, the only problem is everyone’s mouths were bright red!

Easy Elmo Birthday Cake for My Little Girl

Elmo cake submitted by Jenny M.

Homemade Elmo Birthday Cake

My little girl loves Elmo and has many Elmo toys. Since she likes Elmo so much, I decided to design and make my own Elmo Birthday Cake. This cake is a butter cake which is “hard” enough for the fondant to rest onto. I bought ready made fondant from supermarket, rolled it flat and cover over the cake. I printed Elmo’s face from the internet, roll some icing with red colouring and cut out the shape of Elmo’s face following the printout.

With more icing, I formed them into 2 eye balls and nose and placed it on top of the face and background. With black food colouring, I used the back of a bamboo skewer to draw the eye, mouth and outline the shape. Wordings were also written with food colouring. My 2 year old girl is so fascinated by it and she calls it “Elmo Cake”.

Simple Homemade Elmo Birthday Cake

Homemade Elmo Birthday Cake

My daughter’s 1st birthday cake had to be an Elmo Birthday Cake, since she cheered every time he appeared on TV. I have never made a character cake before, and I just followed a picture I had of him.

I used Wilson frosting red, black, white, and orange. Next, I used the star tip for his face and used a butter knife for the nose, mouth, and eyes. It took only about 45 minutes to decorate. My daughter loved it!

Elmo Cake

The Elmo cake was for my first grandson, Michael, on his third birthday. It was an 11” x 17” cake pan and it takes 2 cake mixes for this size pan. I prefer Duncan Hines cake mixes and always sit the oven temperature at 315 degrees so that the cake center will rise flat and even with the sides. I also put wax paper back into the original pan and cover very well and freeze the cakes. They are easier to ice if frozen.

I found the picture of the Elmo I wanted to use and enlarged the picture, traced it on wax or parchment paper and laid it gently on top of the iced cake tracing with a toothpick. I made the googly eyes, big orange nose, and mouth out of colored fondant. Using a #5 round tip and thinned icing I filled in Elmo with small circular motions until covered.

I outlined Elmo and added the details in with a black #3 round tip. The top and bottom borders are a “C” circular border using a medium start tip. Last add the writing with a #3 round tip and then the candles.

I traced the image onto a piece of waxed paper & used it as a stencil to trace the image onto the iced Elmo cake.

This Elmo cake is for a 2 year old’s birthday. Its star tipped all over and the ice cream is a tip 12. The fringe around the border is from the grass/hair tip.

I pipe some, switch the tip to another color (without cleaning it) and it creates a cool blend of colors.

My little boy was turning 1 and loved Elmo so I came up with this really simple way to create an Elmo cake. I used a 10-inch round cake pan and made a chocolate Devil’s food cake out of a box and used store bought red white and black icing to do the rest.

I just cut out the area around the eyes to make the eye’s more pronounced and then iced the Elmo cake with the red icing except for the eye area. Then I drew the mouth on with black icing and filled it in. I put the white icing on for the eyes and used the black icing to trace around it to do the pupils.

For the yellow nose I took some yellow icing, let it dry and become tacky, then kind of rolled it into a ball shape and placed it on top of the Elmo cake. I was surprised at how simple it was but cute too.

This Elmo cake was for my son’s first b-day and yes he loves ELMO!! I used the Wilton Elmo cake pan and like some else suggested on this webpage, I used a bigger star tip then suggested. For the base, I used a cookie sheet just so I had somewhere to write Happy Birthday.

I made an Elmo cake for my son’s 2nd birthday! I used the Wilton cake pan and got an icing dye kit from the baking store. Next I baked the cake the night before I iced it and put it in the freezer, it was much easier to ice that way. I didn’t use all of the colors that Wilton called for on the pan, but the directions are real easy to follow.

The Elmo cake took about an hour and a half to decorate but it was worth it! To smooth out the icing around the edges and over the birthday present, I dipped a knife in water and spread it over the icing (without shaking off the excess water). It dries quickly and makes it look much more smooth!

This Elmo cake was my very first decorated cake. I used the Wilton cake pan, and baked one box of yellow cake according to the directions. I made buttercream icing, and tinted it in various colors. Then I used Wilton tip #3 and #16 to decorate the entire surface. It was extremely time consuming, especially since it was my first attempt. Not bad for my first try.

My 3-year-old son insisted that his sister needed an Elmo cake for her 1st birthday. It’s from a 9-inch and 6-inch round cake, covered with fondant icing. Make the flowers using an extra small flower cutter (glue it on the Elmo cake).

The Elmo is from the Wilton stand up bear cake pan. Cut the nose of the bear and everything else to make it smooth. Then cut the right and left sides to make it oval. Make the eyes, nose, and mouth from fondant icing. Cut the left arm of the bear, and replace it with a Butterfinger.

Cover the whole thing up with buttercream icing, red color. A border of orchids was made from fondant icing using orchid mold, but you can just pipe buttercream along the border.

I bought an Elmo cake pan by Wilton, I bought white icing, and mixed a dark red food coloring in to get the perfect color for Elmo’s face. Then I used white icing to make the eyes, and white icing mixed with black food coloring to make the eye balls, and mouth.

I also mixed white icing with orange food coloring for the perfect color orange nose. I used a plastic baggie, and poked a hole in the corner using cake tips to make little dots for Elmo’s hair. This cake is really simple, and fun. Hope you enjoy. Be careful, the red icing can stain.

The Elmo cake was made for my son’s 2nd birthday.

My Aunt and Mom are very talented but have not had any formal training.

All they did to make the cake was found a picture to go from and then worked there magic.

I thought I would submit the photo just to help other people find ideas on how to make an Elmo cake.

My daughter was very into Elmo, so for her second birthday, I did an Elmo theme. I bought a cake pan to make balls and put the ball together for Elmo’s head. Then I cut off part of the back so it would lay flat securely. I made an 8×11 cake and trimmed it to make Elmo’s body. I then used some scraps to put together the gift box.

The cake and frosting was all store bought and I tinted the frosting the colors I needed using gel food coloring from a craft store. My daughter loved her cake!

This Elmo cake is the first cake I have ever decorated, so it was quite an accomplishment for me. I made it for my son’s 2nd birthday., I started with a round cake and cut off a triangular shape off the two sides to create Elmo’s shaped face. Then scooped out a bit of cake to create his smile (this will give it a more 3D effect).

I filled in his mouth and face with buttercream. I applied it roughly for the face to have a furry effect. Then I used 2 large marshmallows and Smarties for Elmo’s eyes and a Monte Carlo biscuit for his nose.
