Chinese Take Out

I made this cake for an Oscar Party. This was my first time working with fondant.

I made one 8×12 cake and cut it into 4 squares.

I layered the 4 squares with chocolate frosting in between.

Then I cut the the sides of the cube to get that slanted look (sort of like a pyramid with the top cut off. Then I frosted the sides and top (which is the bottom) with vanilla frosting. I used Wilton fondant. I rolled it out and placed it over the cake. Since this was my first time it took a couple of tries before I got it right. On 2 of the opposite sides I made the folds of the box and then trimmed all the sides. I left the cake upside down for a while so that the folds/fondant could dry. While it dried I worked on 2 lids. Then I flipped the cake over and began working on the noodles. I tinted the fondant with brown gel coloring a little at a time and used a garlic press. My boyfriend squeezed and I kept adding fondant to get long noodles. I also made carrots, loose peas, 1 snow pea and a couple water chestnuts. I placed the noodles and veggies and then i added the lids. I used toothpicks to secure the lids. I also made the fortune cookies with fondant. Lastly, I drew freehand with Red Icing in a tube and a #2 tip the “Thank You” and the Chinese building.

I am very proud of my first fondant cake!
