I covered this Homemade Grumpy Care Bear Cake 2 layer cake in homemade marshmallow fondant tinted with Wilton’s Royal Blue icing coloring (1 bag of mini-marshmallows, 4 T water, and 2 lbs. powdered sugar). I used a mixture of cookie cutters and Wilton’s fondant heart shaped cut outs to make the star and heart shapes.
I cut mini marshmallows in half and placed them around the base of the cake. I attached the stars and heart cutouts to the cake. To do this, I used a paint brush and painted water on one side of the cutout (to make the fondant stick) and stuck it to the cake. I then painted the other side with water to bring out the color.
To make Grumpy Bear, I used an old coloring sheet and copied it in a mirror image. I taped a piece of wax paper over the coloring sheet copy and made an outline with tinted piping gel. Once I completed the tracing, I placed the wax paper on top of the cake and gently ran my finger on the wax paper over the outline and removed the wax paper. This leaves and outline of the image and I filled in Grumpy Bear’s image using Wilton’s #16 with blue and white buttercream icing. I redid the outline with black/purple icing mix to better show the accents.
