My original plan was to make a rustic cake with white fences, rocks, etc. and then put adirondack chairs on the top of it. Once I started making this cake though, I knew those plans were going out the window.
Steps for Making the Beach Themed Wedding Cake
- I covered the whole cake with white fondant (homemade marshmallow fondant).
- Then I painted white luster dust on the cake.
- For the shells, I bought shell molds and used white chocolate. I then used bronze, tan and opal luster dust to paint them.
- The sand is crushed vanilla wafers with just a bit of brown sugar added. I sprinkled sparking gold sugar on the “sand”.
- After placing the shells on the cake, I sprinkled the sparkling sugar around the shells to make it look like they were sitting in sand.
- I also drew a heart and their initials in the “sand.”
My friend and her husband absolutely LOVED the cake!!!
I had never made a wedding cake before and really just decided to do this one for fun. It definitely was a HUGE hit.
