I wanted a bright and cheery birthday cake for my grandson’s first birthday. Jake loves fish, so under the sea it was.
There were oh so many options. The top was a giant brightly colored octopus. He would be surrounded by fish of many colors with big flowing tails and starfish. The list goes on, a seal, shells, corals, sea horses, a dolphin, a clown fish, a sea turtle and last but not least… ” Sebastian the crab” from The Little Mermaid.
When we walked out with cake Jake said the magic words… “Whoa Gramma!”
I cried. Yes I did! For me, Jake and I were the only ones there and those two words meant so much.
Out of all of the cakes I’ve had the pure pleasure of making, I would have to say that this one was one of my favorites.
The cake was white and chocolate marble with buttercream icing. It wasn’t very exciting, but moist and delicious. For this under the sea birthday cake it was the decorations that were the hit.
