I was asked to make this cake by a colleague for his daughter’s 10th birthday. The brief was a swimmer doing the butterfly, which I agreed to do without a single idea how I was going to do it. Anyway, I managed to complete this cake around a full time job over three evenings – did I mention it was also a last minute request!
This is a 9″ sponge cake with raspberry jam & butter cream covered in white sugar paste, with the swimmer created as a topper. I tried get the feeling of movement of the swimmer coming out of the water mid stroke.
Birthday girl was absolutely thrilled, as was her Dad who made the request in the first place. Mission accomplished!
