This was my 1st Barbie Birthday Cake. It was for my daughter’s 25th birthday. I used a tiffin cake tin, as I couldn’t be bothered to cook loads of cakes and carve them up. I used a chocolate mud cake recipe and goodness it tastes lush!! Beware if you leave Barbie’s legs on as I did (I couldn’t bear the thought of cutting them off), then you may find as I did that there is a gap between the cake and her hips.
I simple used a 6″ cake board for the cake to sit on and sat it on another 12″ board and simply drilled a hole in the middle for her feet. This left only now a little distance which was corrected by using sugar paste smooth and modelled, which was then covered with fondant icing, perfect. I added a bodice and then covered with a train. I did find the train part tricky and it took 3 attempts and in the finish I settled for the above.
It was much easier than I thought it would be. I used a lustre cake spray by PME, it was expensive as I nearly used the whole tin but it just finishes the cake of wonderfully. I also used rainbow glitter on the butterflies and lettering.
I looked at lots of designs and got lots of tips from here so thanks peeps…and I hope this is useful to some out there.
WOW what a fantastic job you did, I’m sure your daughter just loved it (:
It’s a beautiful cake..
