My son’s first birthday party was pretty classic. We decorated with photos of him, hung some of his baby clothes to show growth. Pretty much dark blue, light blue and white. I bought these #1 plates for the food and I wanted the 1st Birthday Cake to match.
So for his smash cake I baked two layers of 8″ round confetti cake and filled them with butter cream. I dirty iced them and covered them in fondant. I took waxed paper and traced the number one off the plate, cut it out and used it as a template. I watered down some gel food coloring and with a food safe brush, I traced the “1” onto the cake. I painted the plaid pattern inside it like the plates had and added the balloons from the plates as well. I added his name to the top and did a giant butter cream shell border and was done.
I also made chocolate and vanilla cupcakes in white and blue for the guests.
