I made this 2-Tier Ariel Cake for a friend’s daughter who was turning 7! It’s a chocolate cake with homemade buttercream icing. I got the recipe for the buttercream from Wilton.com. The bottom tier was baked in a 10 inch pan and the top in a 6 inch pan. Each tier is 2 layers.
I placed wooden dowels in the center of the cake to help stabilize it! For the rock that Ariel sits on at the top of the cake, I used one single cupcake! For the majority of the icing I tinted it sky blue, using Wilton icing tints! I then airbrushed the bottom a darker blue, using the Wilton canned color mist, to give it that deep sea look! I then piped white icing at the top of the layers to try to create the look of waves!
With a small paint brush I applied some blue edible glitter gel to give the waves a more detailed look! The sand that is placed around the bottom is simply brown sugar! For the 2 shells at the bottom I just bought a shell candy mold and filled with white chocolate! I also scattered some pearl sprinkles around the bottom and then piped flowers in pink buttercream!
Most of the decoration around the bottom of the cake is piped in buttercream with the exception of a few plastic picks. The crab and dolphins are plastic. This was the first time I had done such a detailed cake! I was a little nervous at first and it was a little time consuming!
In the end I was very pleased with the outcome and so was my friend!
your cakes rock !! :)
I love this cake! The detail of the waves just make this cake unbelievable:-) I’m planning on making my granddaughter an Ariel cake for her birthday in May & may just ‘borrow’ that for her cake, @ least I’ll try. Thanks for the inspiration!
