This 3D Grave Digger Child Birthday Cake was pretty easy and a lot of fun. My cousin and I made this for our son’s 3rd & 4th birthday.
For the base of the truck we took a broken monster truck toy and removed the truck top. We then made a cardboard base for the cake to sit on. The truck was made out of a loaf pan. To give the cake more height we used a 9×13 cake to cut out another layer and form the front of the truck. The crushed cars were mini loafs.
The most time was making all of the various frosting colors and then pipping on our decorative touches. We also made some lime green cupcakes to go with the cake.
To make our black frosting- we started with a chocolate frosting and then added Wilton black. For the lime green we used neon food coloring.
We used 4 cake mixes, and 3 batches of frosting.
The best part about this cake was how easy and fun it was!
Thank you for the idea for making a monster truck for my son’s birthday cake. I have been looking for a cake pan in the shape of a monster truck, but this would be much cooler. Thank you again. I just hope my version looks as good as yours does.
