This 60th Lobster Birthday Cake was made right at the last minute! It was for my sister’s father-in-law’s 60th birthday. The reason it ended up having a lobster decoration was because we couldn’t think of anything else…and my sister’s husband had decided to buy his father a couple of fresh lobsters as a birthday treat, hence the cake!
We went for coffee flavour cake, baked in a 9″ round tin. The buttercream was flavoured with Kahlua. The lobster and all the decorations were made from fondant strengthened with Tylose. I used burgundy petal dust to give some depth to lobster. Once the lobster was dry on the surface I painted it with confectioners glaze to give it shine. The cutlery was painted using gold lustre dust mixed with vodka. I used holographic glitter on the number sixty. I really wanted to go with white fondant to cover the cake but the plate would have been ‘lost’. I think it looks pretty cool against the blue background.
