I made this Angry Bird Cake for our granddaughter’s 13th birthday this July! She is obsessed with them. Knowing how much I love to bake crazy cakes and love a baking challenge, I agreed! I am very proud of this cake!.
For the bottom sheet cake, I baked two different flavored cakes and set them side by side on a large rectangle pan to cook together. One is lemon, the other is yellow cake flavored with coconut. I frosted the sheet cake with my home made butter cream vanilla frosting.
Next, I baked a vanilla cake in one round pan. I wanted to use all of the batter in one pan to give the “bird” a nice full shape. Once cake was cooked and cooled, I laid out my design before frosting. For the eyes, I lined the bottom of a small glass with black gel and lightly pressed onto the cake to get the circular eye shapes. For the eyebrows and tail, I cut out the shapes from black sugar sheets and “glued” them onto the cake using a small amount of icing.
The rest of the cake design, I free-handed. Not bad, huh? Once I mixed all my colors with Wilton gel, I then proceeded to use a star tip to fill in my body. I then affixed the “bird” atop a cardboard round and then slid that onto the top of the sheet cake and VOILA!..Easy!
Hope you love it as much as I do!
