I made this Ariel cake for my daughter’s friend’s 5th birthday party.
I baked two round 10″ cakes and two round 6″ cakes and covered them with marshmallow fondant, using a recipe I found on the internet. Next, I placed Ariel’s legs in the 6″ cake so she was standing upright. I then molded green fondant to make her tail, wrapping the top of it around the lower torse of the doll, and, finally, wet the fondant and sprinkled green sugar over it to give some texture to the tail.
I used store-bought fish crackers and glued them on the cake with buttercream frosting. I then punched tiny holes in the cake and filled them with pearlized sugar and some frosting to resemble fish bubbles. I brushed off the excess frosting with a paint brush for a clean look.
The sand effect at the bottom of the cake is just graham crackers, finely grounded.
