This Baby Shower Cake is a three-tiered cake and made for my daughter’s friend for whom she hosted a baby shower. Since it was for a baby shower, I chose to do a fun-fetti cake with pink vanilla frosting.
For the bottom two layers, I used Wilton 10″ round cake pan. For the top tier, I used the Wilton 6″ round cake pan. This cake took 4 cake mixes to make and about 3 1/2 cans of frosting. There was enough left over batter to make 10 cupcakes.
I used white fondant (I used food color paste to make it pink) for the cut out baby clothes on the side of the cake. I cut each piece individually from patterns I hand made. The top tier of the cake (which the mom-to-be took home) was the 6″ cake. On top of this I made a pink dress with a tulle overlay and wrapped ribbon around it and tied a bow in the back.
On the front, I glued pink glitter to make it look “fancy.” The buttons on the dress were brads that are used for scrapbooking. The dress was attached to a bamboo skewer and “stuck” in the middle of the top tier. The booties under the top tier were real–an added gift for the mom-to-be. I did use dowel rods to keep the bottom two layers steady–it was a really heavy cake. The curled ribbons under the dress were the kind you buy ready-made and I just cut off the tages and placed them under the dress, around the bamboo skewer. I used the candy sprinkles that come with the frosting to outline the bottom edges of the cakes.
This was my first attempt at a tiered cake and everyone at the shower loved it. It tasted good and it was pretty too!
awesome mom! I’m so proud of you and your cake making abilities! luv you!
