We threw a surprise baby shower for my sister in law who is expecting a girl, and I was entrusted to the job of making a Baby Shower Cake for the occasion. This cake was pretty simple but effective.)
I baked a round chocolate mud cake, cut it into two layers to allow for frosting to go in the middle. I made a small hollow in the top of the cake to allow for the baby ‘bed’, then spread Betty Crocker vanilla frosting all over. I made marshmallow fondant, my homemade recipe, and separated it into smaller lots and coloured it pink, yellow and then the leftover bits, purple. I covered the whole cake with pink, draping it to look like blankets, then added a few more pieces to the top for the folds and a pillow.
The little baby is actually plastic (and a boy!), but I dressed it as a ‘she’ in purple and adhered a candy flower to her hair with some sugar glue, then set her up in the hollow of the cake. The yellow blanket has a handmade quilt design printed on it by using a zester tool and carefully printing the dot design and small cutters for the patchwork squares.
