Pretty Homemade Pregnant Belly Baby Shower Cake

I was asked to do a baby shower cake for a friend of my daughter’s. She wanted me to make a fondant cake that was a belly with the foot poking out on the belly and the body in a bikini. I told her I was not very good at fondant but would be glad to make her cake if she would except one made with butter creme frosting only. I try to make my cakes to match the personality of the person receiving it so the bikini was out.

This girl always wears dresses and I felt the dress fit her more. I made the sheet cake with two white cakes in a quarter sheet cake pan and covered it to look like a pink baby blanket (she’s having a girl). I made the belly with chocolate cake filled with vanilla pudding with one of those cake pans you can fill with pudding or ice cream. I used the top filler pan to make the breasts.

The entire cake is covered with butter creme frosting. I made the foot ahead of time and used one of my granddaughter’s baby doll’s feet as a pattern. It was a total hit with everyone at the shower and they raved about how well it tasted along with how beautiful the cake itself was.
