Coolest Ballet Cake Design

My niece requested a cheesecake with a Homemade Ballet Cake Design. I made the cheesecake using the Philadelphia Cream Cheese recipe and then tinted the mixture to match the colour of the cake with the accessories. I made the tutu using an egg cup as the base, then I draped and gathered a piece of lace ribbon around the rim of the cup. I stuck sequins on the tutu to make it sparkle. I attached the bodice and used little ribbons for the shoulder straps.

The shoes I bought from the dance shop Bloch. I covered the board with a soft coloured tissue paper and used a pretty ribbon as a boarder. I covered the total board with cellophane. I used a piping bag (and butter icing) to pipe the flowers as a feature on the cake and on the board. To elevate the tutu I covered a small plastic plate (from a childrens cooking set) with the same tissue paper as the board. I tied a bow (using the same ribbon as on the board) to the cutting knife so it matched. I used the flower beds in the corner as a base for the candles (which were a apricot colour to match the cake).

I was happy with how the cake turned out taking into consideration the time it spent to make. My niece loved it. One of the most important aspects I believe with making and presenting any cake is the overall presentation. So many times I have seen a brilliant cake and then it put on a board with no effort applied to the covering or surroundings. This can really take away from the cake. The overall presentation adds to the scene. On a This cake was fun to make … very girly.
