I saw $40+ barbie cakes at my local baker and thought, “Heck, I can make this Barbie Birthday Cake for much cheaper than that, and my daughters will just love it.” I saw this website and read a lot of your submissions about Wilton and thought that I’d check the prices on Wilton products. Egads! $25 just for the Wilton dress pan?!?! I thought, “Okay, I can just use my bundt cake pan.”
So I bought two $5 Barbie at Walmart (one for the cake AND later for my 4 year old and the other doll for my 5 year old) and set to baking. Unfortunately, I didn’t make enough batter and the cake only went up to Barbie’s knees. I baked a second cake only to find my 2 layer cake was still not close to Barbie’s hips. I didn’t dare toy with the notion of cutting off Barbie’s legs, I knew my little 4 year old would have been heartbroken so onward, I baked a third layer.
After frosting the three layer “dress” for Barbie, I began rolling the fondant and designing her shoulder wrap and gown using white fondant and Strawberry flavored frosting. The effect was amazing but our guests got a true kick out of my 4 year old looking up at me while I was slicing the cake and asking, “mommy, do I have to eat my Barbie doll too?”
Very nice work I want one!
Great cake… I ate it.. and let me tell you… good !!!!
