This is my first Barbie birthday cake. It was much easier than I expected!! I started by baking 2 6″ round cakes and 2 8″ round cakes. The skirt is chocolate and the base is marble. I stuck them in the freezer (this helps with icing and sculpting) over night.
I took the 2 6″ cakes cut the tops off both spread butter cream over the top of one and placed the other on top. I then shaved off layer by layer until I was happy with the shape of the skirt and covered it with a light layer of butter cream (this is a necessary step for fondant to mold and stick properly). Colored and rolled my fondant and started decorating!
For the 2 8″ cakes I did the same steps as I did for the 6″ cakes.
