This Barbie cake required a regular cake mix. I used a 6 inch metal mixing bowl & baked it the time recommended for a Bundt. It was still liquid in the middle so I stuck three potato stakes (helps potatoes cook faster in the oven) in & it was done in 15 minutes. Any kind of metal rod would work. The recipe recommended covering it with foil & baking longer.
I frosted it with regular store frosting & added the marshmallows, which I had presorted by color. I used a lazy Susan so I could spin it around as I placed each row. After it was done I didn’t like the way the doll’s top was too bright for the dress so I add in the little dots where white icing was showing. It seemed to pull it together better. Using a lighter color for the top would be a great alternative. I also forgot to ice a necklace & bracelet on.
My mom made this cake for me when I was little, but she put the marshmallows on randomly in all four colors & it was cute as well.
I kept skirt of the cake under a glass cover overnight to keep the marshmallows fresher . Once I got to the party destination, I put the skirt on the sheet cake on three dowels to support it & then reinserted the doll body. The base of the cake was a standard 9×13 & I needed it for the number of people I was serving (twin party with adults & children).
