This one is for my DD birthday; it is my first attempt at a Barbie cake. I have been teaching myself cake decorating for the past year and I think this one is one of my best!
I used 3 8″ rounds, stacked and frosted in-between each layer. The top layer was baked in my small stainless steel mixing bowl. I used a round cookie cutter to cut out the middle of each cake (before stacking and icing them) and Barbie fit inside perfectly. I had read a few stories about having to remove Barbie’s legs; she was just the right height. I was a little worried as I didn’t want to ruin a perfectly good Barbie.
It was surprisingly easy to make and did not take long at all. I have spent up to 13 hours or more on a cake in the past, this one only took about 4 hours from start to finish! I would recommend anyone looking to make a fun birthday cake to try their hands at a Barbie cake.
I was a little worried about the bodice but luckily I found a Barbie at my local Wal-Mart that had the bodice painted right on her. I only wish I made the pink icing the color of the bodice rather then the color of her hair; or at least the roses that held the candles.
