Here is the Barbie Doll 4th Birthday Cake I made for my friend’s daughter’s birthday party. It was my third time to make a cake like this and the fifth time to ever make a cake! The first time I used a regular cake tin, a glass bowl and a ramekin! Then I got sense and purchased a Wilton doll cake tin on eBay. It definitely made life a lot easier! All done in one go.
I made a regular yellow sponge cake batter and cooked it for an hour. I took the legs off a Dollar-store doll and inserted it into the top of cake. I looked at some photos of doll cakes online for inspiration and then had a great time icing it! I had never used fondant icing before but actually found it quite easy to use. The next time I would make a template for the dress instead of trying to guess how much icing would cover it.
For the miniature cake, I just used a circle that I cut out of the cake and covered it with icing. I used toothpicks to hold the cake in place. I love the look of Barbie holding the cake. I made pink buttercream icing for the frills on the front of the dress. I was very happy with the way it turned out and the little girl was too!
