We live in Zambia and we don’t have the necessary ingredients to decorate a Barbie cake, so we have to use initiative and we realized that basically anything goes!
Used Ina Paarman’s (South African) Pre-mix vanilla cake. We used a mixing dish and a round baking dish as the moulds. We soon realized that the two cakes wouldn’t be “high” enough to cover a complete Barbie, and that’s when the fun began. Mom, Mone (11yrs) and Louise (6yrs and birthday girl) put heads together and made a plan.
We used fizzers to fill the gaps (we twisted them for flair), made our own icing flowers (we bought rolled icing) and used clay cutting tools to make the flowers. We also used pink sweets and lots of icing to decorate the Barbie Ballerina.
Louise was so impressed, and so was mom and sister Mone. A creative success born out of desperation. It didn’t take us more than an hour to decorate the cake.
